The product removes rust but also a thin surface layer of the metal

On new silencers, free of rust or with minimal oxidation, it does not restore the exhaust to its original factory condition

Use on new or pristine exhausts may soften or erase welding marks and surface finishes

For this reason, it must not be used on new or properly maintained silencers, but only on exhausts showing visible oxidation.
